The New Gifteer is getting ready!
Summer vacations were not really… vacations for the most courageous of the Gifteer Team. They have been working hard on the upcoming release. You will love it!
We will keep you posted on the timing of the release, as well as the details of the new functionalities, so you can prepare for Christmas !
Gifteer: the website that loves moms
… and that moms love!
We know it, moms are the ones who really worry about organizing gifts: what do the kids want for Xmas? Our sister-in-law’s birthday is getting closer, what would she like? Mamy’s birthday is soon, what are we offering to her?
Often, they can feel alone in this job. So Gifteer is here to help them, with tons of functionnalities specifically designed for them!
So moms: let’s go to www.gifteer.com!
Illegal copies made legal on Gifteer
On Gifteer, you can copy your friends’ wishes legally!
If you spot a wish that you’d love to have on of your friend’s wish list, you can copy it directly to your own wish list, using the “+ I want this too!” button.

Gifteer reminds you of your friends’ birthdays
Yesterday we announced a ton of new features. Here is more information.
As a universal wish list site, we had to remind you of upcoming friends’ birthdays. So we put together four types of emails:
- a “D-60″ email, that reminds you 2 months in advance (60 days, dughh!) that your birthday is coming, so you have ample time to add items to your wish list, so that your friends will know what to get you,
- a “D-30″ email, that reminds people who have added you in their friends list, of your upcoming birthday,
- a “D-1″ email, that reminds your friends they should call you the next day to wish you a happy birthday,
- A “D-day” friendly email from us here at Gifteer, to wish you a HAPPPPY BIRTHDAYYYY!!!!
Here is how it looks like on Gmail :

Surprise surprise with Gifteer!
Quite often, first time Gifteer users ask us how they can still be surprised when they get gifts for Christmas or for their birthday. It’s easy: put as many wishes as possible!
If you only have two wishes, you will not be much surprised when you find one under the Christmas tree. But if you have fifty wishes, then yes you’ll be very surprised each time!
The more wishes you add, the more comfortable your friends will feel to find THE gift you have always dreamed of and that they like, too!

Year of birth on Gifteer
We finally decided to include the year of birth on the users’ profiles. You can set the full date of birth, and decide not to share the year on your profile (we looked out to our senior users who do not want to show their age to the world!”.
Eventually, it will help us suggest gifts to get to your friends based on actual wishes entered by other users of the same age.
In the process, we had some philosophical debates regarding the best way to input a full date of birth. If you look on other websites, you’ll find various options:
| digg.com |
|
| yahoo.com |
|
| netvibes.com |
|
At Gifteer, we want to make your life easier, and since we are always looking for innovative stuff that speed things up, we have chosen a particular input format that we hope you’ll like: you type in the date with any format like 2/12/1974 or 2 12 1974 or 2-12-1974, we get what you meant and confirm that the date is valid. The whole thing, of course, super super fast.

So let’s go to www.gifteer.com to update your profile!
Why should you add URL to your wishes?

For those who did not understand the title of this post, let me tell you that a URL is like a web address, something like www.gifteer.com.
All right, that being said, why should you care about URLs ?
Let’s say a friend of yours is looking at your wish list and is interested in offering to you a particular item “MP3 player for swimming”, and thinks it’s a great idea and wants to offer it to you. Unfortunately, this friend is no MP3 expert, and ends up buying the one MP3 player that you did not want. Too bad…
That’s where URLs come into play: add the URL of the item, like this : http://www.svmlemag.fr/tests/03153/arena_h3o. You know your friends will get you the right gifts!
Associate accounts
If you have small children, it’s difficult for you to ask them to enter their wishes in Gifteer!
That’s why we invented associate accounts. These accounts, that you create yourself for your children, allow you to manage their wish lists directly from your own account.
How do I get started?
Go to your account settings, by clicking on your name at the top right-hand corner. Then you will see, on the right-hand side, where you can create one or more associate accounts.
Later (much later…), you will be able to transform these delegate accounts into “normal” accounts, allowing your children to manage their wishlists themselves.
We will soon expand the concept of delegate accounts for children to other delegates, such as parents (if don’t have internet access), or your spouse…if he refuses to create a wishlist ;-).
We will keep you posted!
How to add an image to your wish
We often have this question: “How do I add an image to my wish?”
Easy!
You can add an image to your wish if this image is on the web. You just have to paste the image URL into the field called “Image” in the New Wish form.
To find the URL of an image on the web, right-click on this image, and go to Properties. You will find the URL of the image, that generally starts with http:// and ends with .jpg, .tif, .png or .gif.
Copy it (select it and then hit Ctrl+C), and paste it into the Image field in the form. There you go!
You won’t be able to add an image saved on your computer, though.
Gifteer Forum
When Gifteer goes live on November 15th, you’ll also have access to a forum.
Why would you want a Forum ?
This forum will let you :
- Ask for advice to other members on gift ideas for your spouse, your children or your friends! Help other members out in return!
- Tell what you think about a new product, whether or not it is a great gift, who would love to receive it for Christmas!
- Report a bug or request a new feature. Help us improve this service to make your life even easier!
