GIFTEER ACCOUNT
Why would I want a Gifteer account?
You may have noticed that you can start adding wishes without having to create a Gifteer account. So, why would you want to create an account?
Until you create your account, Gifteer does not know your name: so your friends can’t find you, and can’t find your wish list! When you create an account, you enter your firstname and lastname and your birthday. This helps your friends find you without any doubt!
With an account, you will also be able to create a group to make group gifts within your family for example, and receive birthday reminders when your friends’ birthdays are coming soon.
So don’t hesitate any longer, create your account. It’s free and only takes 15 seconds!

How much does it cost?
Gifteer is totally free!
Why? Simply because the ads we put on the side of each page are enough to pay for the hosting of the site.

How about my children?
You can easily create wishes for your children directly from within your own account: all you have to do is to create a associate account.
To create a delegate account, click on Welcome Steve (or Welcome John if your name is John ) at the top right-hand corner of the screen. Then click on the “Add an associate account” button on the right-hand side of the screen.
Once the associate account is created, you can add wishes for your kids from the My friends page, then click on your child’s name. You will then see a Add a wish to this associate account link.

Add wishes to your wish list
You don’t have to create a Gifteer account to start adding wishes to your wish list. Simply go to “My wish list”, then click on “New Wish”. Off you go!
All you need is a name for the wish (you can say “a cat” or “grand’ma cheese cake receipe”). However, you can refine the wish by adding, for example, a URL (a hyperlink to a web page), and even a picture (copy and paste the URL of the picture on the web).

Will I know when someone has granted one of my wish?
It’s up to you! When you create your account, you can specify whether or not you want to know when someone has granted you a wish. Simply answer ths question “What about surprises?”

Do I have to put a link to a web page when I add a wish?
No! You can link your wish to a specific web page, but you don’t have to. You should do this if you think it’s going to make it easier for your friends to find the gifts you really want.

How do I add an image to a wish?
You can add a picture to your wish, if this picture is on the web. All you have to do is to add the URL of the image on the “image” field of the New Wish form.
To find the URL of an image on the web, right click on this image, and then go to Properties. You will find the URL that usually starts with http:// and ends by .jpg, .tif, .png ou .gif.
Copy this URL (select it and then hit Ctrl+C), and paste it onto the “Image” field. You got it!
Note: you cannot use an image stored on your own computer.

GROUPS AND GROUP GIFTS
What is a group?
Groups allow to make group gifts. For example, you can create a group called “Jones Family”, and invite all your family members. From now on, you can use very useful features :
- group members can add wishes only visible to the other group members.
- you can chat with your brothers and sisters about a gift for your parents for example. Of course your parents won’t see this!
If you want to create a group, go to My groups, then Create a group

FRIENDS
Search for friends on Gifteer
You can search for friends on Gifteer: simply enter his firstname and lastname in the search field at the top right-hand corner, then hit “Search”. If your friend already has an account on Gifteer, you will see his name on the search result page, and all you’ll have is to click on “+Add to my friend list”.
If you can’t find your friend, just tell him to create an account on Gifteer!

Grant a wish
When you offer a wish that you found on Gifteer, you can “grant this wish” to let people know that you are offering this gift. This will ensure that nobody else buy the same gift!
To grant a wish, you have to be logged in (with a Gifteer account), and all you have is to click on “+Grant this wish” on the My friends page.

RSS FEEDS
Why RSS feeds for Gifteer?
RSS feeds let you follow the activity regarding your friends: birthday reminders, latest wishes, etc.

Types of RSS feeds
There are three types of RSS feeds in Gifteer:

• birthday reminders: you can see the list of your friends’ upcoming birthdays, for the next 2 months
• a friend’s latest wishes: for a given friend, you can see all his latest wishes entered in Gifteer
• all your friends’ latest wishes: you can see all the latest wishes for all your friends.

How to use RSS feeds?
Si you have already used RSS feeds, you’ll know you have to use a RSS reader, such as Outlook 2007, Google Reader or Netvibes. By clicking on the appropriate icon, you will the URL you need to us for the feed.
