Gifteer reminds you of your friends’ birthdays

Yesterday we announced a ton of new features. Here is more information.

As a universal wish list site, we had to remind you of upcoming friends’ birthdays. So we put together four types of emails:

  • a “D-60″ email, that reminds you 2 months in advance (60 days, dughh!) that your birthday is coming, so you have ample time to add items to your wish list, so that your friends will know what to get you,
  • a “D-30″ email, that reminds people who have added you in their friends list, of your upcoming birthday,
  • a “D-1″ email, that reminds your friends they should call you the next day to wish you a happy birthday,
  • A “D-day” friendly email from us here at Gifteer, to wish you a HAPPPPY BIRTHDAYYYY!!!!

Here is how it looks like on Gmail :

Gifteer Userbar

Filed under: Features — Tags: , — admin

We Gifteer fans now have our userbar. For those who do not understand the title of this post, you should check out Wikipedia to find out more about userbars (in French only. Suprisingly enough, Wikipedia does not have an article about userbar in English). Userbars are essentially like signatures you add at the bottom of your messages in forum threads, to promote a site you use and like.

You can choose your own userbar from the following ones :

userbar gifteer v1

userbar gifteer v1

userbar gifteer v3

You will find all of them on Gifteer Art.

Year of birth on Gifteer

Filed under: Features — Tags: , — admin

We finally decided to include the year of birth on the users’ profiles. You can set the full date of birth, and decide not to share the year on your profile (we looked out to our senior users who do not want to show their age to the world!”.
Eventually, it will help us suggest gifts to get to your friends based on actual wishes entered by other users of the same age.

In the process, we had some philosophical debates regarding the best way to input a full date of birth. If you look on other websites, you’ll find various options:

digg.com digg
yahoo.com yahoo
netvibes.com netvibes

At Gifteer, we want to make your life easier, and since we are always looking for innovative stuff that speed things up, we have chosen a particular input format that we hope you’ll like: you type in the date with any format like 2/12/1974 or 2 12 1974 or 2-12-1974, we get what you meant and confirm that the date is valid. The whole thing, of course, super super fast.

So let’s go to www.gifteer.com to update your profile!

Why should you add URL to your wishes?

Filed under: Features — Tags: , — admin

271tnt-oregon3

For those who did not understand the title of this post, let me tell you that a URL is like a web address, something like www.gifteer.com.
All right, that being said, why should you care about URLs ?

Let’s say a friend of yours is looking at your wish list and is interested in offering to you a particular item “MP3 player for swimming”, and thinks it’s a great idea and wants to offer it to you. Unfortunately, this friend is no MP3 expert, and ends up buying the one MP3 player that you did not want. Too bad…

That’s where URLs come into play: add the URL of the item, like this : http://www.svmlemag.fr/tests/03153/arena_h3o. You know your friends will get you the right gifts!

RSS feeds for birthday reminders for Gifteer

Another innovation from Gifteer: RSS feeds to remind you of upcoming birthdays!
RSS_anniversaires
You can configure you favorite RSS reader (Google Reader, Outlook 2007, Netvibes, …) to see the list of your friends’ birthdays, for the next two months. It’s a great way to avoid missing birthdays, without having to clutter your inbox with reminder emails.
If you have already used RSS feeds for news or your favorite blog, you know how convenient these feeds are. So don’t hesitate any longer, add birthday reminders to your RSS reader!

RSS feeds coming to Gifteer

Filed under: Actualités, Features — Tags: , , — admin

You may already know the RSS feeds for the Gifteer blog, but did you know we are about to implement RSS feeds for birthday reminders and for the latest wishes added by your friends?
At Gifteer we think that RSS feeds are a great way to stay abreast of the “wish news” of your friends, without having to come to the site. So for the next release (wait a few more days), you will see three types of RSS feeds:
- birthday reminders rss_anniv
- latest wishes of a friend (eg: Jane’s latest wishes, very handy when her birthday is getting closer)
- latest wishes of all your friends rss_envies

Valentine’s day is getting closer. Are you sure that the one person who should know exactly what you would love to get for Valentine’s, has any clue?

A week-end in the Grand Canyon?  A new pair of skis?  A day at the Spa?

Gifteer is a great way to let him know what your real wishes are ;-)

So let’s go to Gifteer and add your wishes!

Swaps

While trading emails with Gifteer users, we came accross this great concept: swaps.
What are swaps exactly?
Swappers trade home-made gifts related to a given theme. Themes can be “cats”, “Hello Kitty” or “snow” for example.
Let’s look at what a “cat swap” would work: swappers exchange their preferences via email (preferred colour for example) and any things to avoid (allergies for example). Then swapper A will create a home-made gift about cats, following swapper’s B preferences. Swapper B will receive the gift a few weeks later by mail! Swapper B does the same thing with swapper C, etc… until they close the loop.
